WASHINGTON, DC - Senator Joe Lieberman (ID-CT) today praised the release of $4,414,494 to two Connecticut Corporations and the University of Hartford for domestic geothermal energy research. The grant will be used for a number of research projects ranging from testing costs of future use and development of geothermal energy to research and development of new technologies to locating and drilling into deep hot rock formations, to convert the heat to power. The funds were released by the U.S. Department of Energy as a part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
"Investing in the research and development of domestic energy sources will not only help keep energy costs down, but will reduce our dependence on foreign oil," Lieberman said. "These funds will help Connecticut's talented workers and researchers pave the way to new alternative energy sources and a secure future."
The following Connecticut organizations will be receiving funds:
United Technologies Research Center, East Harford CT -- $3,023,897
Gas Equipment Engineering Corporation, Milford, CT -- $1,243,624
University of Hartford, West Hartford, CT -- $146,973
